„W 2019 roku minęła 90. rocznica urodzin i 25. rocznica śmierci prof. dra hab. Tadeusza Łoposzki, wybitnego znawcy i popularyzatora historii starożytnej i kultury antycznej, wieloletniego kierownika Zakładu Historii Starożytnej, Dyrektora Instytutu Historii, Dziekana Wydziału Humanistycznego, Prorektora ds. Słynął ze swej otwartości, tolerancji i empatii, a Jego serdeczność, uczciwość, wrażliwość i uczynność zjednywały Mu powszechną sympatię i olbrzymi szacunek. – Autorzy

„Despite the convergence between the title of the conference and the book discussed here, at first glance it is plain to see that this publication constitutes an autonomous whole, as well as an ambitious attempt to capture the issues connected with Spartacus as a historical character, comprehensively, in all their complexity, and also to tackle the difficult issue of the „posthumous works” of the Thracian slave. We must note that researchers on Spartacus are confronted with two ideologies, or maybe two ways of using the hero for propaganda purposes: on the one hand, Roman historiography, and the other, Marxist thought and communist propaganda. We have to admit that, amongst the main figures of the last century of the Republic, the hero of this book, while admittedly not the most important from the point of view of historical events has without doubt the greatest potential for receptions and appropriations’. This constitutes the significance and contemporary nature of the subject of the work. This collection of articles edited by Dariusz Slapek amply fulfils the definition of a authored monograph. We are presented with a thoughtful choice of texts, clearly connected by a distinct guiding thought. The picture of the ancient slave painted by the authors glitters with a plethora of meanings. This is particularly visible in the second period of Late Antiquity. This incredibly interesting, many-faceted look at the Trachian leader shows, almost as an aside, the importance of the co-operation of specialist from various branches but also the openness of the representatives of studies of antiquity to the inspiration flowing from accomplishments within contemporary humanities”. – Andrzej Gillmeister
The present collection of articles is devoted to one of the most famous figures of Roman history. For centuries now, Mark Antony has attracted the attention of not only historians, but also pop culture artists, mainly due to his fascinating life. The origin of his legend is also one of the major issues, on which the attention of the collection's authors have focused.[...] the contributions which constitute the collection shed light on these aspects of Mark Antony's career and legend which do not usually fall within the areas of interest of authors of classic versions of this remarkable and controversial politican's biography. Similarly to an earlier publication devoted to Sulla, the reviewed collection will be valuable complementary contribution to the history of the last generation of the Roman Republic. The fact that this undertaking employed representatives of various scientific fields of study (historians, philologists, and archeologists) will certainly have an impact on its cohesion. One the other hand, however, it seems that this is a price worth paying for the opportunity to look at the history of rome and Antony in so many different ways. The present collection af articles I have reviewed certainly deserves publication. An excerpt from the review by Prof. Przemysław Wojciechowski
